Centerless grinding machines are used for grinding and finishing of cylindrical workpieces. As a rule, it is used when large quantities have to be produced and efficiency is the decisive aspect. Typical workpieces are: axes, rollers, pneumatic-, hydraulic- and pressure-cylinders but also drills or needles, Of course also a lot of parts for the automotive industry like valve spools, camshafts, crankshafts, pistons, control rods or sleeves.
Loeser is the leading manufacturer of centerless grinding machines and systems for centreless belt grinding. Highest throughput for finishing of cylindrical parts with over 1000 machines delivered world wide.
Before centerless grinding machines were developped, cylindrical parts have been grinded between centers or by gripping the part with a chuck. Centerless grinding machines do not need methods to hold the workpiece.
Parts are processed while passing a grinding belt on the one hand side and a regulating wheel on the other, supported from below by a device that looks a bit like a blade.
The grinding belt presses the workpiece against the regulation wheel, which determines the rotation speed of the workpiece as well as the feed through the machine, as the regulation wheel ist tilted some few degrees.
Due to this through-feed technology, centerless grinding machines achieve a tremendous efficiency.
Loeser is producing centerless grinding machines for very small parts with diameters of only a few millimeters and for huge parts with diameter over 1.000 mm (40 in).
